Esta tendencia de pensamiento puede conducir a tomar males decisiones, desde políticas, financieras y hasta en el amor.
En política, por ejemplo, podría hacernos seguir a candidatos que realizan promesas basadas en prejuicios que compartimos, sin aportar evidencia, datos o hechos que las sostengan.
Y bueno, pues en campaña, las promesas abundan.

Durante las campañas políticas, el sesgo de confirmación nos puede llevar a creer (sí, como un acto de fe) en todas las afirmaciones y promesas del candidato o candidata de mi preferencia, sin sopesar la veracidad o fundamento de sus afirmaciones.
¡Al fin y al cabo, es mi candidato! Y…. “puede estar mintiendo, pero dice la verdad”.

Las redes sociales multiplican el sesgo de confirmación
Las redes sociales funcionan con base en algoritmos que tienden a mostrarnos los contenidos a los que hemos dado un “like”. Su propósito es mantenernos conectados y ¡qué mejor manera de hacerlo que solo mostrarnos todo lo que nos gusta!.
Terminamos así encerrados en una burbuja de información similar que nos muestra solo una parte de la realidad. Funcionan como los medios de comunicación, pero de manera individualizada.
El problema es que, cuando nos enfrentamos a la realidad, ¡no podemos digerirla!
¿Por qué es importante ser conscientes del sesgo de confirmación?
Para evitar que nos engañen con noticias falsas, no ser víctimas de estafas y malas decisiones. Para acabar con los discursos de odio, la polarización y los pleitos y más bien, crecer como seres humanos, y pues…, votar sin que nos agarren de majes.
